You are watching Fact or Fiction and in this episode you will find out about 6 Biggest ships on the planet
Merchant vessels and warships have been surfing the waters of our planet for several
centuries now. These days people build ships of enormous proportions. Ships so massive they
look like they came from another planet. Some of them are cargo ships, others are harvesters and
of course there are huge cruise ships too! See if you wanna take a trip on one of those. You`re
watching Fact or Fiction and this is 6 biggest ships on the planet!
Wind Turbine Installation Vessel
We will start with ships that has to do with wind energy. Usually, wind turbines are built
near coast at a depth of 30 meters maximum. They first prepare the seabed soil at the site. For
that they use special types of vessels that lay out the ground very accurately. What`s interesting
is that they can even work at a depth over thousand meters. These vessels are also used for pipe
and cable laying. “Svanen” is a floating construction crane. It has a lifting capacity of 8700 tons,
Svanen is the most powerful floating crane in the world to this day. This year, the crane is
installing windmills at one of the floating power plants. There are many other types of vessels
involved in the process: for example, self-elevating vessels also participate.
Generally, self-elevating vessel is a ship equipped with four or six pillars, a kind of self-
elevating platforms that allow it to go up and down to the required height. The first of the self-
hoisting ships was the British vessel called “Resolution”, ordered by Shanghai shipyard in 2002
It was finished in 2004 In addition to building the power plant itself, it was required to lay a
cable connecting the land with the seabed to allow direct electricity supply. For that matter, a
cable-laying vessel is used. Typically, such vessels are designed especially to work with offshore
wind power structures. This type of ship was the first to lay the world's first transatlantic
telegraph cable between Europe and North America in the middle of the 19th century.
Giant Cruise Ship
In April 2018, a genuine sea giant called “Symphony of the Seas”, went on its first ever
voyage. This Oasis class cruise ship is the largest passenger ship in the world as of 2019, it fits
hell-of-a-lot people. It is over 361 meters high. It seats 5518 people, and can take aboard 7
thousand passengers, plus 2 thousand crew members. The ship includes 16 guest decks, 22
restaurants, 24 pools and 2759 cabins. It offers a variety of entertaining facilities: from fashion
boutiques and a movie theater to a personal water park. You`re probably wondering how much
for the whole ship. Well, apparently the owner of the Symphony of the Sis thinks that the price is
quote “immodest”, which is quite true, because the it cost 1.35 billion dollars to build.
